As most of you shooters are aware, it’s been tough to find magazines for most defensive weapons. Fear of an upcoming ban on standard capacity magazines has led people to stock up on anything they can find. Gun store shelves are bare. If you can find magazines on the secondary market, they are approximately four times the price that they were just a couple months ago.
Magpul’s reliable P-Mag for the AR-15 rifle has been one of the hardest magazines to find in this crisis.
Magpul recently introduced a program for active duty police and military members for a one-time priority purchase of up to 10 P-Mags. They promise shipping within 10 days.
If you are in the LE or Military, here’s how to get them:
In order to participate in this program, go to: http://store.magpul.com/member_register.
– Create your login account and click the “Register” button to submit.
– Once you receive a Membership Confirmation e-mail from firstname.lastname@example.org forward it (FW: ) along with your name and unit or agency affiliation to email@example.com. Please respond using an official .mil or agency e-mail address, or provide other official identification to verify Military or LE status.
– If you already have a login account at Magpul.com, please just send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org with your name, unit or agency affiliation as outlined above, and the e-mail address you used to sign up for the account.
Once we verify your status (this process can take up to a few days) you will be added to an authorized MIL/LE group, which will allow a one-time purchase from a limited access section of our website. You will then receive a notification e-mail stating that you have been added to this group, and instructions for placing your order will be included.
I followed the instructions and received my ordering instructions within 12 hours.
Selection is limited to 30-round 3rd Generation P-Mags (in black only) for the .223 AR-15/M-16. You can also purchase 20 round .308 P-Mags for the SR-25 rifle. Each order is limited to 10 total magazines.
The .223 P-Mags were priced at $14.95 each. Magpul provided a 10% discount code as well, making the total price $13.45 per magazine. That’s a whole lot better than the $75 price you’d find at a gun show!
I ordered 10 mags and shipping was 14.99. I don’t know what it would be for a smaller order. My order was shipped out two days after I placed it. I received the mags by FedEx five days later. That’s phenomenal customer service in this time of magazine and ammunition scarcity!
I realize this program doesn’t directly help those of you who aren’t LE or Military. Maybe you can find a cop buddy to place an order for you. It will help in the long run because you won’t have police officers and agencies running up the prices of the magazines in the secondhand market.
If you are eligible, I urge you to participate in the program. Magpul is so far back ordered that it’s unknown when availability will be back to “normal”.
Special thanks to my friend Ed Lovette for sending me the program details!
