Happy Thanksgiving to all my American readers!
Instead of a written article today, I’m going to share a recording of the recent radio episode I did for Ballistic Radio.
The content of this interview is all about surviving riots, protests, and crowd violence. I told a couple war stories about a few of the riots I’ve personally experienced while traveling in South America and provided some sensible information to keep anyone out of trouble if they get surrounded by a violent mob.
Ballistic Radio’s description of the episode is as follows:
“When you start seeing indications that the crowd is changing in temperament from one of maybe protest to one of violence you really need to get out of there as quickly as you can.” — Greg Ellifritz
Riots, mass protests and demonstrations are peppering the American landscape with many of them turning violent. Greg Ellifritz from Active Response Training joins Ballistic Radio tonight to discuss his experience and how to best avoid, escape and survive a riot. Between discussing how user-based GPS systems may be unreliable, the signs a mass event is about to turn violent and what kind of gear you might want to store in your car, Greg, John and JackJack discuss the merits of pepper spray grenades, how to best move through an advancing crowd and how to articulate the use of deadly force.
If you live or drive around hot spots for mass protests and demonstrations this is an episode you’ll want to listen to… twice.
I think the interview went really well and I was able to share lots of useful information. You can listen or download the episode at the link below.
If you are looking for more information on surviving incidents of mob violence, take a look at the links in the “related posts” section below. You may also want to check out my article titled “Mob Mentality.”
Have a great day off work. I’ll be driving around my city in a patrol car today keeping everyone safe and mediating all the domestic situations that happen when out-of-town family visits and drinking copious amounts of alcohol suddenly converge.
Here is my holiday advice:
- Eat lots of good food.
- Don’t fight with your family.
- Don’t get arrested.
Most courts aren’t doing arraignments tomorrow or Friday. If you get arrested, you may have to sit in jail until Monday if your bail needs to be set by the judge. I assure you that four days in the slammer over a holiday weekend is absolutely no fun. Keep things under control and behave yourselves. Enjoy the Ballistic Radio episode.
