I’ve got two guns! — Citizen-Defender

There are lots of articles out there covering “the best first gun to buy.” Have you considered what the best choice of a SECOND gun might be?
Is Your EDC a Worthless Talisman?

“When it comes to carrying a gun, an inexperienced gun owner might believe in their heart that their firearm will act as a talisman — a lucky charm that will ward off all evil. These same people might also no clue that owning such a life-saving tool necessitates life-saving training. The same applies to an edged tool. If you elect to carry one for self-defense, then you must also consider training.”
By the Numbers: Gun Ownership Through the Years

Very interesting historic statistics about gun ownership in America. I’d like to see this one updated post-Covid and the riots we saw shortly thereafter.
The concealed carry advice that sounds smart — until stress hits

“The smartest concealed carriers are not the ones with the most aggressive slogans. They are the ones who understand that a handgun is a narrow tool for a narrow set of problems, and that the best “advice” is whatever keeps you from needing to press the trigger at all.”

AMERICA HANDGUNNER 1990 CLASSIC EDITIONS

In the days before the internet, this was one of the prime resources most of us used to get gun information. I remember reading these magazine issues when I was in high school. The lack of photographs in the articles and the language used is very different from internet gun articles today.
Read Askins’ “Revolver vs. Auto” article starting on page 32 for an example. Askins talks about pistol whipping a smuggler and “knocking him out colder than a whore’s heart.”
Sometimes I miss the more colorful language of yesteryear.
The Retention Mindset: Beyond the Hardware – Inside Safariland

With the exception of the advice advocating a bladed “interview stance” this is information more concealed carriers should understand and adopt. If you don’t understand why “keeping your gun side back” may cause more problems than it solves, you need to do some more training under realistic fighting conditions.
Top Five Picks for Concealable Body Armor

I regularly get questions about body armor for armed citizens. While at one point in my career, I evaluated and chose the body armor worn by the officers in my police department, I’ve been out of that game for more than a decade. This article might provide some more current guidance.
Neighborhood Rapport/Community-Building Follow Up

Good advice. If you are truly worried about a serious future societal crisis, the advice in this piece will be far more useful than stockpiling a few more AR-15 rifles.

Lots of folks postulate that our current murder rate would be much higher if we had the medical care abilities of earlier eras. This article argues that may not be the case.

Point Shooting is Still a Meme

“It’s Not Faster
That’s the biggest claim: it’s faster than sighted fire. That’s true if you suck. If you cannot make acquiring your sights and tracking your sights a skill, then you don’t need to practice point shooting. You just need to practice shooting.”
THE DECISION CYCLE

“Mindset” and “Awareness” are two massively over- and misused words in tacticool land.”
