Cancer Update and 2026 Class Scheduling

All the best cancer doctors in the country told me that I would most likely be dead by February 2026 if I didn’t treat my metastatic prostate cancer.

Although there is still a chance I might randomly die in the next two weeks, I’m going to prematurely announce that all the best cancer doctors in the country were completely wrong.  It looks like I’ll be around a little while longer.

For those who aren’t aware of my medical history, I have a very aggressive form of metastatic prostate cancer.  I wrote up a full description of what I’ve been going through in  this article from last year.

I’ve held off scheduling classes for 2026 because my medical future has been in question.

I had some rough symptoms caused by my cancerous tumors/lesions last June and July.  One tumor was pushing on a nerve in my back causing a lot of pain.  I had horrific nausea and lost 30 pounds because I couldn’t eat.  I was throwing up so much that I lost my voice.  Having to stop teaching to run off into the weeds and vomit wasn’t very fun.  I was certain I would have to cancel the remaining classes I had scheduled for the end of last year.

By the end of August, all my symptoms slowly resolved and have not come back.

My most recent blood tests and PET scans show that my cancer has not spread nearly as rapidly as the doctors had predicted.  The tumor putting pressure on a nerve in my low back has actually gotten significantly smaller.  I still have cancer, but it seems to be confined to what’s left of my prostate gland and in two pelvic lymph nodes.  The cancer has not spread to any anatomic structures where it has the ability to kill me yet.  In fact, it has not spread at all since last May.

My docs don’t know what to think but are cautiously optimistic.  I’m continuing to get blood tests every three months and PET scans twice a year.  Right now I don’t have any cancer symptoms that are affecting me at all.  I feel really good…better than I have in a couple years.

I’m not delusional enough to think my cancer won’t eventually start growing again (it’s generally not considered curable once it has spread as much as mine has).  I realize that this disease will most likely kill me.  “Dilbert” creator Scott Adams’ death from prostate cancer today keeps that reality fresh in my mind.

Until then, I’m going to enjoy the good times I have left.

I’m heading to Florida at the end of the month and will be going straight from there to the Dominican Republic to stay with friends for most of February.  When I get back home, I will start teaching again.

I’m working now with my established hosts to solidify my 2026 teaching schedule.  Knowing that I likely have a severely shortened shelf life, I’m going to be reducing the number of classes I’ll be teaching in 2026.

For the past five years since my police retirement, I’ve taught over 40 days of travel classes a year.  I’m looking at teaching about 30 days this year to allow me to better enjoy whatever limited time I have left.  I really enjoy teaching, but it is still work.  I’d rather not spend every waking minute I have left on the shooting range.

I have long trips to Eastern Europe and Peru planned.  I’ll probably book a couple more international adventures as well so long as I continue feeling good.  I’m not stopping my teaching, but I’m not going to be busting my ass quite as hard as I have in the last few years.

As for the classes I have scheduled, I have a close quarters gunfighting and a home defense shotgun class scheduled in Tennessee for the last weekend in February.  The CQB gunfighting class is already sold out, but I have four slots still remaining in the shotgun class.

On the weekend following my Tennessee classes, I will be teaching a new course in collaboration with Jeff Gonzales in Central Texas.  Called “Near and Far: The Complete Handgun Fight,” we will be team teaching a full spectrum pistol shooting class.  The course combines a day of my extreme close range gunfighting concepts with a day of Jeff teaching the long range handgun curriculum he developed for a federal law enforcement agency in the context of active killer/counter-terrorism engagement.  The class registration just went live today.  It should be a fun and unique learning experience. I hope to see some of you there.

I am currently finalizing nine days of training at Blackwing Shooting Center in Ohio, two weekends of close quarters gunfighting instructor development at Tactical Defense Institute and in Louisiana, a couple weekends at KR Training, and a weekend at Citizen-Defender in Culpeper, Virginia.  I’ll also be teaching at the Rangemaster Tactical Conference, RevolverFest in South Carolina, and the Thunderstick Shotgun Summit near Las Vegas.

Once I get all those dates finalized, I’ll take a look at my schedule and see if I can fit in a couple more training dates.  If you would like to host me and have a track record of being able to fill up classes, contact me.  I may be able to squeeze you in during the 2026 teaching year.

I thank you all for your prayers and positive energy as I’ve dealt with the challenges of having Stage IV cancer.  I have one request…

Please don’t send me details of whatever “unconventional” treatment methodology you’ve heard cures cancer.  Every time I post an update like this, I get a deluge of messages recommending “alternative” treatments that the sender believes are certain to cure me.  While I know most of the folks who relay that information mean well, it’s utterly draining.

In the last six years since my cancer diagnosis, I’ve read every prostate cancer study published on PubMed within the last decade.  I have read dozens of medical books and have spent hundreds of hours watching cancer videos on YouTube.  Unless you have personally undergone prostate cancer treatment or are a doc working in the field, I promise that I know more about the disease than you do.

Yes, I know about Ivermectin and Fenbendazole.  I tried high doses of both for more than a year.  They did nothing.  Yes, I know about cannabis, CBD, and Rick Simpson oil.  I know about Gerson thereapy, coffee enemas, and the benefits of fasting.  Yes, I know about the ketogenic diet and the metabolic theory of cancer.  Yes, I know about Vitamin B-17, crushed apricot seeds, and Essiac tea.  Please trust that I’m aware of all my options (and likely dozens more that you’ve never seen).  I don’t need any additional treatment suggestions.

Thanks for reading.    I hope to see you in a class later this year!
