Knowledge to make your life better. If you have some free time, check out some of these links this weekend.

50 Best Tactical Blogs and Websites in 2025

I didn’t think that there were 50 tactical blogs still in existence. Apparently there are and mine made the top 10.

NEW STUDY: Time to Stop—Why Even the Most Disciplined Officers Can’t Stop Faster than Humanly Possible – Force Science

“I never understood how a law enforcement agency could allow a police officer to carry a gun if they missed the target 20% of the time. It’s like saying its acceptable for an officer to hit the target 80% of the time, but he can shoot 20% of his shots in the direction of the range master. It’s totally understandable how a police officer might miss his target during a gunfight, after all, there’s someone shooting back at him. But how does it make any sense to consider a cop qualified if they can only hit a target with 8 out of every 10 shots fired? Is it acceptable that 20% of his shots might hit people and other things they shouldn’t?”

Hold Tight To The Past

“The upshot of all this? Ain’t much new under the sun. Sometimes we need to get away from being explorers of new shooting worlds and become archaeologists instead, digging through the sands of time for old concepts which worked but were sadly forgotten.”

Antifa conducts ID checks to find undercover reporters, cops outside ICE facility in Portland—then assaults counter protester

On a similar theme of “illusion” brought up in the link above, lots of folks attend these protests/riots as a form of entertainment.  I worry when those sightseers encounter something like this in the riot.  Have you considered what you would do if you were surrounded by protesters who were demanding your ID and your phone?  It’s best to have a plan, even if you don’t attend riots for the party scene.

What’s Behind the Steep Decline in Mass Shootings in America?

“It’s important not to pop the champagne too early here. 2014 was a similarly good year, as was 2020 (with lockdowns, schools closed), but both reductions were fleeting. Still, here’s hoping something fundamental has shifted and the era of frequent mass shootings comes to a close.”

Cutting-Edge Combatives

Quality information about carrying, opening, and gripping a folding knife for combat.  I prefer the grip pictured above.  While a thumb on the spine grip yields better thrusting accuracy and more wrist range of motion, I see lots of people in my classes dropping their knives when using it.  I’ll sacrifice a little range of motion in exchange for being able to hold on to my knife in a fight.

NEW STUDY: Time to Stop—Why Even the Most Disciplined Officers Can’t Stop Faster than Humanly Possible

I discussed this issue a bit in the instructor class I taught last week.  Going fast is great…until you outrun your headlights and are shooting faster than you can process the change in the situation.  Lots of my fast shooters tell me that they train to shoot fast because they can always make the decision to go slower.  I fear that in reality, that doesn’t happen.

John Holschen has done a massive amount of research into this area.  I spoke to him about it.  He was adamant that most shooters will not stop shooting quickly enough UNLESS THEY ACTUALLY TRAINED TO STOP SHOOTING.  When have you fired up the shot timer to see how quickly you can STOP shooting when the situation changes.

Tactical Regret • The Havok Journal

“That’s where his animosity towards me stemmed from. I was what he wished to be at that moment, an armed man ready to kill to protect what was his. I wasn’t rich, living in a big house with a trophy wife. But, at the same time, I was everything he wasn’t. 99% of the time he was content to be himself but, that 1% of the time he wished he had been me, and that caused him so much heartache. This manifested itself in resentment, demonstrated with verbal insults.

That brief moment in time haunted him, hiding in the shadows. The memory of his impotence is always present in his mind.”

When Tasers Fail

In my opinion, cops are way too reliant on Tasers.  As the article states, about half the time they don’t work.  I’m also concerned about the research on Tasers and vulnerable populations.  The world would be a better place if more cops got competent at physical restraint techniques and stopped relying on an electric shock to win the fight.
