I Wrote A Book

Written by Greg Ellifritz

I spent most of the day Sunday uploading my third-world travel safety book (think overseas adventure travel) to Amazon.  When it was uploaded, I got a message from Amazon that it would likely be 72 hours before the book went live on their site.  I was pleasantly surprised when I woke up yesterday morning and found the book to already be up and selling.  I am now a published book author.

Overseas Adventure Travel

My adventure travel book is currently only available in Kindle format on Amazon.  You don’t need a Kindle reader to read the book.  You can download the Kindle Reading App to your phone, computer, or tablet and read the book on any of those devices.

I plan to have the book listed on other sites and in other E-reader formats by the end of the week.  I’m considering doing an audio book, but production is expensive.  I’ll see how sales are going before I make that decision.

Approval of the print book involves a longer process and likely won’t be up for a couple weeks.   I’ve had dozens of readers messaging me asking for print copy.  It’s coming.  I can’t speed up the process.  I’ll make an announcement when it is available.  I’ll probably sell autographed copies directly as well as offer an autographed book plate that readers can place in the books they’ve already purchased.

For the Kindle version, I decided to make the regular price $9.99, but offer a sale price of $6.99 for the first two weeks as a way to thank the folks who have been long time readers of my work.  You can pick it up on sale at Amazon until May 5, when the price will move up to $9.99.

Patreon/PayPal supporters of this website will get their free copies next week.

If you have a website/blog/social media following and want a review copy, let me know and I’ll send you one.

I will soon have a second website up and running.  That site will be a travel blog and will support the book sales.  I’ll make another announcement here when I get it all ready for public consumption.

So what’s this book about?

Here’s the description:

Do you get anxiety when you think about traveling to a foreign country? Do you want to see the world and have epic adventures while simultaneously avoiding the risk of death or dismemberment? If you want to do dangerous things in a safe manner, this book is for you.

Career police officer and veteran traveler Greg Ellifritz has written the definitive guide to safe travel in dangerous places. No matter whether you are traveling internationally or to one of the more dangerous cities in the USA, this book will provide you with quality tips that will make your travel adventure much safer and more enjoyable. The book covers topics like:

-Hotel room safety
-Assessing neighborhood risk factors and local security issues
-Navigating public transportation in foreign cities
-Avoiding common travel scams
-Pickpocket prevention strategies
-Foreign money and banking issues
-Safe eating and drinking guidelines for foreign countries
-Minimizing language translation problems

In addition to providing solutions for some of the common daily struggles international travelers face, this book also discusses less common but more hazardous situations such as:

-Preparing for third-world natural disasters
-Escape from terrorist attacks and bombing incidents
-Hostage survival
-Medical issues and treatments in the developing world
-Identifying indicators of criminal behavior
-Discreet travel weapons
-Dealing with bribes and corrupt police officers
-Abduction attempts, “Express kidnappings,” and “Virtual kidnappings”

The book contains useful travel guidelines, valuable checklists and a massive number of additional travel resource suggestions.

Many books of this genre are written for either professional business travelers with unlimited corporate budgets or for international espionage agents. I realize that most of my readers won’t have the resources to hire a bodyguards or a protection detail for their family vacations. I also know that adventure travelers don’t need to understand counter surveillance operations or how to communicate in a clandestine manner. Other travel books cover those topics.

Choose Adventure provides simple and practical tips for the everyday traveler who wants to have fun in the developing world while reducing the chances of being victimized, injured, or killed. The book supplies all the information you need to safely navigate the complex issues of international travel while enjoying yourself in the process.

I realize that releasing a travel book while on a global pandemic lockdown may not have been the best marketing strategy.  That’s OK.  After a little more than 24-hours on the market, the book is the #2 best seller in Amazon’s Travel Reference category.  It’s easy to rise to the top when no one else is releasing new travel content!

If you want slightly different take on travel than you’d find in your average guidebook, I think you will like Choose Adventure.

Thank you all for supporting my book and websites.  If any of you read (and like) the book, please consider leaving a review on Amazon or a book review site of your choosing.  Reviews help get the book shown to more potential customers in Amazon’s algorithm.
