Knowledge to make your life better. If you have some free time, check out some of these links this weekend.

Rifle Tips for Fighting Around a Car

Taking a rifle-based vehicle defense class wouldn’t be my first training priority as an armed citizen, but I think it’s useful to know and practice a few things that might increase your odds of success in a gunfight around cars.

The Quest For Excellence

Clint Smith says: “All fire should be precision fire.”

4 Reasons Why Cops Hate the Government

I can’t say that I disagree.  In my 25-year police career, the government that employed me caused my more psychological harm than all of the truckloads of criminals I arrested combined.

DRILL OF THE MONTH – Dueling Diva

Some great competitive shooting drills to use if you have access to a dueling tree.

Is There A Major Ammo Shortage Coming?

Most of you realize that these ammunition shortages are cyclical and have been happening for decades.  With that said, I’m seeing lots more discussion of upcoming ammo availability issues.  Stock up if you haven’t already done so.  More on the issue here.

What skills should we train and practice?

cropped-uof-class-2000

“Some folks spend a lot of time on thinking about how much spare ammunition to carry, how to carry it, and how to reload quickly. I think that time and effort would be better spent on practicing to make a good first shot, which is a skill many people need a lot of practice on.”

What to Include in a College Emergency Kit for Your Student

A couple weeks ago, I linked to Paul Martin’s article about preparing your child for out-of-town college survival.  Here is another good perspective.

Training Weak Hand Shooting is Important

As I am preparing for a knee surgery next week, I am acutely aware that injuries happen.  You should be prepared to defend yourself even if your dominant hand isn’t functional.

CVPA High School Active Shooter (STL) – ‘22

An excellent analysis and body cam review (from a law enforcement perspective) about the police response to a 2022 school shooting.  It covers a lot of important concepts concerning threats originating outside the school and the problems with not being “on line” and “shooting from the back of the bus” when working with partners.

Known Vagrant Accosts Grandmother And Child Unprovoked

You don’t have to understand the criminal’s motivation or mindset in order to be targeted by him.  Just because you can’t comprehend targeting a grandmother and young child for a violent attack, don’t assume that the bad guy shares your morals,

Rangemaster Professional Trainer’s Symposium 2024

Karl reviews the invitation-only firearms trainer symposium organized by Tom Givens.  I went to the first one, but couldn’t attend this one because I was working as an expert witness in a self defense murder case that went to trial that week.

The attendees came from all around the country on their own time and dime just to learn more about how to better pass on our art.

The kind of folks like the instructors who took this class are some of the more dedicated professionals in the industry.  Prioritize training with people like the students in this class when you are choosing how to spend your limited training budget.
