Weekend Knowledge Dump- June 13, 2025

Knowledge to make your life better. If you have some free time, check out some of these links this weekend.

The world is getting a bit spicy again.  Dozens of large protests are scheduled for cities all around America on Saturday.  Israel bombed Iran.  People are going nuts.  This particular variety of public insanity is cyclical.  If you look back at the news and your social media feeds, you’ll realize that all the post George Floyd  street violence began almost exactly five years ago last week.  I’m going to start this week’s dump with some critical crowd violence knowledge before we get to the normal assortment of articles I usually share.

“Having Fun Watching Cars Burn”

Paul Martin’s thoughts about our current situation.  You should definitely buy Paul’s book.

A letter to the American public: Why you must decide what you want from cops

As riot season seems to be starting up again, I think it’s important to educate the public on the role of the police officer.  Do you want the pit bull or the golden retriever? You can’t have both.  For more information about the future of policing, you may also want to read Instigating Change In Law Enforcement.

The Siege of the Third Precinct in Minneapolis

This is a play-by play analysis of the tactics rioters used to take over the police substation in Minneapolis in 2020.  It’s an important read for my cop friends as it presents a detailed look at how the rioters handled police interventions and seized territory.  It may also serve as a “playbook” for future actions.

3 Questions To Stay Alive

“What are you willing to risk your life for? Only you can answer this question. But, I recommend asking it in advance. Remember, fighting is problem-solving at high speed. The more questions you can answer in advance the more efficiently you arrive at a solution.

There are enormous responsibilities associated with owning/carrying a firearm for defensive use. You go out of your way to be polite with everyone, no matter how big a jerk they are. When you do see signs of possible trouble you avoid and escape. And, before becoming involved in a violent situation you always ask, “Do I know the details? Am I going to contribute to solving the problem? Is this worth risking my life?”

Six Questions to Ask Before You Buy a Gun

Don’t Trust Yourself

“Aside from the well know “different gun syndrome”, what I’m getting at here is that as a relatively new or lower skilled shooter, you cannot trust your own opinion or experiences yet. This is not an insult, just a fact of life.”

A very thorough list of tips for all of you who regularly carry concealed firearms.

Cold Ranges Are Unsafe: A Critical Discussion

“The best way to “treat all guns as if they are loaded” is to leave them loaded whenever possible. Running a hot range is the best way to achieve this during a class. If your instructor tells you that he or she runs a cold range because the students aren’t capable of carrying around loaded guns — I would hire another instructor.”
